Environmental Impact and Sustainability
The personal care industry has a significant environmental footprint, from plastic waste to the sourcing of raw materials. However, a major shift toward "Green Beauty" is underway.
Packaging Waste: The industry generates over 120 billion units of packaging annually. To combat this, brands are introducing refillable containers, biodegradable packaging, and post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials.
Waterless Formulas: "Solid" products like shampoo bars and concentrated cleansers reduce the need for plastic bottles and lower carbon emissions during transport.
Eco-Friendly Ingredients: There is a move away from petrochemicals toward plant-based, biodegradable ingredients. Upcycling is also gaining traction—using food waste (like coffee grounds or fruit seeds) to create high-quality exfoliants and oils.
